Liverpool

After waiting for 26 mins at Stanmore station (don't ask) we set off for Liverpool. Having arrived we found a mosaic as usual, the old school and westfield.

Not working today. More is the pity as it was quite hot today. 

Ben said this was too easy as the animals were really close together.

On the walk we saw lots of murals and this headstone for Captain Cook. Most disturbing prize goes to Liverpool history society window.

We went in to Westfield for a sticky beak and I ordered Rainbow Unicorn not having any idea of what it was. Ben got a chocolate milkshake. It took AGES and then it was like this. 





Sweet bubbles that exploded in your mouth. And Ben's straw disintegrated. They had to refund someone's money and also we saw two women waiting that were there for the length of drinking the tea.

We also went to QBD at Westfield and I found two jigsaw puzzles for school and puzzle sorters. Picked them up on the way back to the station. 

More walking and checking out the suburb. So multicultural.

And then back to the station via Lighthouse bridge. No view due to high fence. Two minutes till the train left. Fun day.

Five Dock After parking, we started starting at the Great North Road. Luckily the first shop to grab our attention was Tamborrino Pasticceria . After purchasing a Vanilla Zuccherati   and Vanilla Cannoli we continued on stopping to eat these DELICIOUS pastries.  So much choice and not expensive at all.  They must get asked A LOT about this timing of eating. Love these very specific and detailed instructions for their semifreddo cakes.  Sophia! We continued down Great North Road, slowly heading toward the water. First stop was St Alban's Church which had an ancient boom gate and a lovely set of metal swing gates. We were taking all sorts of pictures and talking loudly and then had some looks from a couple who were heading in to the service. Time to leave, but not before finding this incredible wood eagle statute outside was I think was the rector's house and also these beautiful flowers. Woolloomoloo

Starting the new year with new theme, exploration. My friend Ben and I plan to explore lots of Sydney suburbs that we have never been  to and document a little of what we learned, saw and experienced. Initial guidance from Travel with Joanne  and Chat gpt!  We were going to follow a route set out by the above but ended up just wandering which was really the best way to find out about the suburb. That and talking to various locals (one who had lived there for 25 years and another, homeless, who was making the area his own for a short period of time) made our journey around this old and quirky subject interesting and evocative.  We started at the Butler Street Stairs and made our way down the slope, stopping to see into the backyards of the apartments and townhouses along the way.  We descended to Brougton Street which had terrace houses either side. Continuing further we found a community garden, op shop and coffee shop. I found a fetching red woollen hat for $1....

Campsie

Our first stop was the library of course. Campsie library and knowledge centre is incredible. Huge and we found all sorts of English books you would have to wait ages for in the inner west. We joined of course and took our haul back to the car.  It was a huge old style library with a massive local collection with titles that I love about the minituae of suburbs. The most 'interesting' decorations.  Plus the glued in books.  I had already joined and now picked up my books that I reserved and my new library card.  Moving on we went down the mains street. VERY Korean and a mix of other ethnicities including Nepalese, Malay and Filipino and others.  We ate at the latter. Lots of the buildings were old and the signs were all sorts of faded.
